Christie Apiary & Christie Aviary
Fifteen years ago, I became interested in breeding Cockatiels. For a few years, I enjoyed this venture and sold many handfed, gentle, and very tame Cockatiels. It was only recently that I figured the time was right to resume, and am starting with just a pair of beautiful Latino Cockatiels. There will be more tropical birds- stay tuned! At the beginning of 2007, I read about CCD and the mass exodus of the Honey Bee. This fueled my desire to do what I could do to increase the bees. Reward- Superior Flavor and Quality Honey
This is the beginning of "sweet things to come."

In 2008, I joined the Washington State Beekeeper's Association, and am completing the Master Beekeeper's Certification Program.

Entering into this Venture, I have been blessed in getting to know others who are also Beekeepers and very special people!

I encourage you to buy local honey and to support our efforts in retaining and increasing the Honey Bee Population.

News!
Christie Aviary has one beautiful Latino Pair of Cockatiels with more tropical birds to come; Christie Apiary is growing as the challenges are met!
The introduction of an expanding raised garden bed, the fruit orchard, plantings with bees-in-mind, and a few clover plantings...all serve to offer pollen sources.
Ahhh, tasty honey! That is what you can see drizzling from the spoon on the left. This is the wished for bounty resulting from my bee's efforts.

Many years ago, my grandmother used to treat my sore throat with a mixture of raw filtered honey & rum. She was careful to administer just a tablespoon full of this concoction. I remembered how soothing it felt and how I always got better faster than without the remedy. I didn't know until years later why. It wasn't the rum; it was the raw honey! Now, after reading how honey used to be used on wounds to aid in healing and keep from infection, I was determined to try it. A few days later, I burned my hand inbetween my middle and index finger of my right hand. After rinsing the burn in cold water, I applied raw filtered honey & bandaged it. The next day, I changed the bandage after applying more honey. It soothed the burning and healed it in just a few days. This was FAST!

I hope to be a Beekeeper for many years to come!
Here you can see a very healthy frame of Italian Honey Bees- This was a Prolific Queen!

When these ventures became known to just a few of the member of the Seabeck Community, Friends, and Family, I was strongly urged to pursue them! My cockatiels have been described as absolutely beautiful birds! My Bee's Honey was touted as one of the best Honey's each of the tasters ever had.
